Kentucky State University Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Set to Host Second Annual Thorobred Stampede Invitational

FRANKFORT (October 10, 2012) – On Friday, October 12, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Kentucky State University’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams will host their 2nd Annual Thorobred Stampede Invitational. The Invitational will be held at the Library and Archives in Frankfort, Ky. (off the East/West Connector) and is being sponsored by Coach O (Bags by Coach O, Coach O Registration and Coach O Event Management).

“We are really excited about this year’s Invitational,” said Associate Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field, Markus Broussard. “Last year’s event was a huge success and this year our alumni have really supported our efforts to repeat last year’s accomplishments.”

The women will compete in a 5k run at 3:00 p.m. followed by the men's 8k run. The course consists of large downhill, some uphill, military monument, small wooded trail, mostly grass and a short stretch of paved road.

Just as in 2011, the Thorobred Stampede will also serve as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West Division Title race.

“Last year our women’s team pulled out a well-deserved West Division Title during the Thorobred Stampede and, in turn, placed third at the SIAC Championship,” Broussard stated.

The Thorobrettes have had a great 2012 campaign, with two student-athletes, Denita Brown and DeJanee White, earning SIAC West Division Runner of the Week Honors so far this season.

“On the men’s side, with a young, inexperienced team, last season we focused on rebuilding and creating an atmosphere for growth,” mentioned Broussard. “This year’s men’s and women’s team both have a lot of potential. We have made adjustments and are moving in the right direction. We believe the work we have put in thus far has set us up for a great race this Friday at home with our families and alumni there to support us.”

KSU’s men have also experienced great success this season, as Kieren Broussard has been tabbed SIAC West Division Runner of the Week twice.

“We have the right personnel to accomplish our goals,” affirmed Broussard. “Looking at the SIAC lineup this year, I feel as if we are one of the top-three teams on both the men’s and women’s sides.”

“Want to thank Bags by Coach O for sponsoring the 2012 Thorobred Stampede. We also wish to thank our alumni for their great support,” added Broussard. “We invite all our alumni to celebrate our success, our rich history and bright future by attending the Alumni Picnic on Saturday, October 13 during the 2012 Homecoming football game.”

About Bags by Coach O, Coach O Registration and Coach O Event Management

Charles Oliver is the founder of the three divisions. He founded Bags By Coach O in 1989 and expanded the company to include Coach O Registration in 2000.  In 2008, Oliver launched Coach O Event Management.

An active member and advocate for the nation’s track and field community, Oliver served in leadership positions with several organizations, major athletic events and as a member of numerous boards including the Knoxville Track Club, AAU Executive Committee Board, AAU Junior Olympic Games, USATF Meet Directors Association as well as NCAA and SEC positions.

A firm believer in activities that promote fitness – “being a former PE teacher,” Oliver says – his company actively promotes youth programs and events. His company also donates equipment awards to various youth programs, allowing athletes access to equipment for their training and pursuit of personal fitness and achievement.

The goal of Bags by Coach O is to provide bags and gear that are of high quality, inexpensive and that will enhance the visibility of your school, program, or organization.

Bags By Coach O was only a start. Oliver approached business, a life-long compassion, with the same intensity and focus that he employed as a champion athlete. In 2000, he expanded by opening Coach O Registration, a company specializing in online computerized registration for meets, tournaments, clinics and camps. Eight years later, Oliver combined his experience as an athlete, coach, and administrator with his business acumen and launched Coach O Event Management. The division provides turnkey service for conducting, managing and marketing athletic events.
