SPECIAL TO THE MESSENGER

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University track and field program couldn’t ask for a better day weather-wise for the Coach O Invitational, the only home meet of the season, on Saturday. With sunny skies, no clouds in the sky and the temperature approaching the mid-80s; the track was burning but not from the temperature, but from all the records that were falling on the day.

The day started with a victory by the Trojans and ended with the same, but in between six regional marks were met, nine new track records were broken and the Trojans set three new school records along the way. Junior Tiphanie Baker made an attempt to steal the show for the Trojans as she won the first event of the day, the hammer with a new track record of 51.88 meters - breaking the mark set by Sarah Lambrecht of WKU (49.68 meters) last season.

However, senior Agata Cichoszewska wouldn’t let that happen in her last home meet by winning the Outstanding Athlete of the Meet with victories in the javelin, long jump and triple jump.

Cicoszewska won her first event of the day in the javelin with a throw of 37.54 meters, setting a new personal best in the event. But her day was just beginning as she took to the pits for the long jump right after completing her final throw in the javelin.

The Trojans will have a week to rest and prepare for their next meet, the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 8-10. The meet will take place in Murfreesboro, TN, on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.
